So yeah. Today is a buzz in my mind.
I got to interview Devin Townsend with
mark00z. It wen't really well, and I don't think we came off as complete fanboys.
Then: THE CONCERT!
Oh my god. It was like the best concert ever. Local band "And Guests" (No one knew their name, so Mark dubbed them that) started it off with their unique brand of REALLY FREAKING EPICLY LONG metal. Not too bad overall, but they ate into the next band's setup time.
Next band on deck: Zimmer's Hole.
DEAR LORD. See this band live before you die. It's freaking GREAT! They have an awesome live show. The lead singer, Chris Valago, comes out in full-body red paint and devil horns, weilding two swords. They went through some of their best songs (White Trash Momma, Reanaconda, 1000 Miles Of Cock...) and it was PERFECT! It seemed like the crowd was unfamiliar with Zimmer's stuff, as Mark, Steve and I were the only ones screaming out the words to the songs.
Oh! During the set, Chris Valago was tossing out these cheese slices with stuff written on them (METAL CHEESE SLICE \m/) and I CAUGHT ONE!! I got a free Zimmers Hole poster from that, and Matt got a picture of me with the slice :)
So then came Devin Townsend Band. DAMN what a good show they put on. They played live songs I never thought I would hear... stuff off of Ocean Machine, Infinity and Terria as well as a couple songs from the DTB album. I talked to the DTB drummer after the show (when I was picking up my poster) and told him how pumped I was when they started off their set with 7th Wave (Ocean Machine song... kicks ass)... he was really happy that the set kicked my ass and that I was glad to hear some of the older Devin projects represented in the set. That was cool.
Finally: STAPPING YOUNG LAD. Second time seeing SYL (this year \m/) and definatly a better show... ie not in Club Rocket. I didn't catch much of the actual show as I was in the pit most of the time, but MAN was it a good pit. People helping other people up immediatly, no attacks from behind (within reason) and just an over-all friendly feel. It was hella fun.
Before the show started I purchased myself a SYL shirt (wich sadly isn't on the site, as it kicks ass). It's got black long sleeves and a red body, with "SYL" in yellow on the front and "STRAPPING YOUNG LAD 13" on the back... sort of like a soccer jersey, but not quite.
I'd have to say this concert tops out the Soulfly/Slayer concert of last year.
So yeah. I'm done with my rambling. If there area any spelling errors or such in this post, tough. I can barely see through my contacts currently ;)
