Man. I can’t believe how behind I am in posing movie impressions!

Two weeks ago (on opening night) I saw Superman Returns with a good friend. Short review with no spoilers: I loved it. They really captured the feel and the characterizations were great! Definatly a see-in-the-movie-theaters movie.

Last night I saw A Scanner Darkly with a co-worker. This has to be one of the best book-to-film movies that I’ve ever seen. The paranoid tone of the book was preserved intact, as was the humor and sadness conveyed by the characters. Several of my favorite parts of the book are rendered perfectly by the cast. Which is another thing: I loved the casting. Robert Downey Junior and Woody Harrelson as burnt-out drug addicts isn’t a stretch, but even Keanu was good. Very surprising. The strange style of animation really suits the movie, once you get used to it. All and all it is a very brilliant and dark movie by Richard Linklater.

For anyone who likes Philip K. Dick in Toronto, go see A Scanner Darkly at the Varsity theater. It’s 100% worth the price of admission.

What a busy weekend! It started on Friday night with a small celebratory dinner at Gothjen and __Flatline__’s place in honor of Margrock’s birthday. Much merriment was made, although iolarah had to leave early to finish off a cake for her step-sister-in-law’s Baby Shower.

This weekend was pretty good. On Saturday [livejournal.com profile] iolarah's dad visited, so we hung out with him for a while. [livejournal.com profile] iolarah Put the finishing touches on [livejournal.com profile] _justjack_'s christening cake, and we ended up going to the [livejournal.com profile] den_of_doom to watch the end of The Professional and all of Kill Bill part 1.

Yesterday was spent at [livejournal.com profile] _justjack_'s christening. It was a very good christening, and the "after party" was awesome! After we got home (probably around 6ish) [livejournal.com profile] iolarah and I (finally) watched Ronin.

also: Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] weave and [livejournal.com profile] fyreangel!!

So yesterday the non-zombie state never occurred, so I never got around to posting anything about the mini-cottage weekend.

On friday, mid-morningish, [livejournal.com profile] brothermeynard IMs me and asks if [livejournal.com profile] iolarah and I would be interested in going up to the cottage with himself, [livejournal.com profile] madeofpoison and his mother (who later had to bail). A quick phone call home and we are in! Shortly thereafter it is declared a patio day and the office trucks off to The Red Lion for pitchers and wings (the jerked wings there are to DIE for.)

I get to leave a little early (honestly, BEST. FRIDAY. EVAR) to get beer and then go home in time to pack and such before [livejournal.com profile] brothermeynard and [livejournal.com profile] madeofpoison arrived. [livejournal.com profile] iolarah was finishing her cake transaction, so we packed quickly and off we went!

The trip went smoothly (aside from a tragic loss of Wendy's fries (but that was offset by FREE BURGER!)) and we made it to Honey Harbor in excellent time. [livejournal.com profile] brothermeynard and I had a quick swim and then we all watched Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. Then it was pass-out time.

Saturday was started with coffee and a pancake breakfast. We then enjoyed a lake bath, then naps. Beers on the front deck and then a quick jaunt into town for some extra supplies. Chicken burgers and spaghetti. After it got dark and the mosquitoes got bad, we watched Team America: World Police and Cannibal: The Musical (also known as Alfred Packer: The Musical).

Sunday was drinking more beer on the front deck, and lamenting the fact that we had to leave. The trip home was fairly uneventful (SYL VAN!) and not TOO plagued with traffic problems.

Many thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] brothermeynard and [livejournal.com profile] madeofpoison for throwing together an AWESOME weekend with little time to prepare for it. You guys rule :D

Yesterday was an excellent day. [livejournal.com profile] iolarah and I went to Kensington and picked up some pastry-type breakfast things (A croissant, a raspberry scone, an apple pinwheel and a cinnamon crunch) from the My Favorite Bakery and a big jug of Cran-raspberry juice from Zimmermans. We walked to the little park that is just to one side of Kensington and sat under a tree and had a awesome little breakfast. We got to watch two little kids chase pigeons around and enjoy the cool morning.

Afterwords we hung out at home, occasionally playing PS2 but mostly watching TV. I fell asleep to CBC's presentation of Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Rings.

All and all a perfect day.

So HHGTTG (Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy, to the uninitiated) was an unqualified success. They did it right. I was happy. And they even threw in nods to the original BBC TV show (which I loved.) The casting was good. The new additions (and there were plenty) were good. The guide entries were perfect. All in all I couldn't have asked for a better execution.

Many thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] otheronetruegod for the tickets and for the awesome pub time after the fact. I don't think anyone left the table unscarred :)

And now it's time to go to the Toronto Comic Con. Imma try and get Warren Ellis to sign my trade paperback of Red/Tokyo Storm Warning!
